At retail locations, you simply hold your Apple device close to the terminal reader for a quick approval. It’s also safer to use than your physical card as your card details are never shared during the purchase. The card number is not saved in the device. No. The card image will not be an exact replica of your physical card
Erasing the information on your iPhone does not affect your physical card. Erasing your iPhone will delete the virtual cards from Apple Pay on the device and they can no longer be used. You have the option of adding cards back into Apple Pay at any time.

When you receive your new card, you will need to add the new card information to your mobile payment device. See Related Article specific to your device for additional assistance.
When you register a card that is associated with your iTunes account, it recognizes the card number and it will ask you to enter the 3 digit (CVV) code on the back of the card.
Double click on the side button and your default card will show. Hold the front of watch up to the contactless reader and a simple tap and beep confirms the transaction was authorized and the contactless reader’s screen will show “Approved.”
If you have multiple cards with Apple Pay, simply swipe your finger across the watch to choose another card.
